The history of BMF dates back to 1993, when ADIMDE, the Basque Maritime Industries Association, was set up by the stakeholders of the Basque shipbuilding-maritime sector: shipyards, owners of merchant ships and fishing boats,
and the supply industry.
In 1997, ADIMDE was set up as a cluster as the result of the Basque Government’s policy to boost competitiveness; other sectoral stakeholders were added and the Basque Maritime Forum formed.
